2008 Prize List

2008 President's Message

Ladies, gentlemen and kids of all ages, I am proud to present the Prize List for 2008. The 63rd edition of the Navan Fair is in full swing. Our theme for this year is "A Family Affair", which is what the Executive and Board of Directors hope to achieve in our planning of events and attractions. It is always interesting to see the creative ideas that the parade floats and exhibitors come up with using our theme.

At this time I would like to thank the entire Executive, Board of Directors and hundreds of volunteers for without their help, this fair would not happen. I also would like to thank the community for their moral and financial support. This Fair would not exist without these good people.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, we hope you will enjoy a great fair.

Sincerely,

Hank Bakker, President
Cumberland Township Agricultural Society

2007 Ambassador's Message

Hi, my name is Sara McFadden and I am the 2007 Navan Fair Ambassador. Since the crowning on August 9th 2007, I have been able to take part in many memorable events. Starting from the opening night of the fair when I was crowned, my duties commenced with counting down the seconds for the opening of the demolition derby. The next memorable experience was simply walking around the fairgrounds wearing my crown and sash representing the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society and meeting many new and amazing people. On Sunday evening of the fair I was able to meet the band Ambush and introduce myself on stage in front of hundreds of people which was pretty frightening and thrilling all at the same time. I was able to meet some pretty interesting and extraordinary people who make the Navan Fair each year possible.

After the fair, my role as ambassador continued. The barn dance was an event that was carefully planned by many dedicated volunteers to raise money to help restore the fair buildings located behind the arena. It was a major success. I really enjoyed this event as it wasn't only to raise money to restore the buildings but also it was a chance for everyone to get together and have a good time. There was a live auction and a local band called the Tailgaters that performed afterwards. The barn dance raised over five thousand dollars that will be put to restore the barns.

Then, there was the 55th Charter Anniversary of the Lions Club event. The Lions 55th Charter Anniversary was a great evening as I was able to see an organization of volunteers celebrate 55 years of success. The Lions anniversary celebration was a great event to attend not only as the Ambassador, but also as a youth citizen of Navan. I was able to see the hard work and dedication that this group of people do to make Navan such a great place to live and also to visit.

Recently in February, I was very fortunate to travel to Toronto for the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Convention with six amazing members of the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society. During these three days I met many ambassadors from other fairs in Ontario and attended many workshops. At the convention, the evenings consisted of live bands, stand up entertainment, silent and live auctions. The final evening of the convention, the organizers took a photo of all the ambassadors which was pretty amazing. The convention gave me an unforgettable opportunity to develop many new friendships. I also gained life changing knowledge that will make me a better ambassador and a better person in general. While attending the OAAS convention I saw firsthand how much hard work and dedication it takes to organize an astonishing fair!

In a nutshell, these are the events I have taken part in as the Navan Fair Ambassador. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Navan Lions Club, the Cumberland Township Agricultural Society, and the honourable judges of the competition. Without all of their hard work and dedication my experience as ambassador would not be possible! I believe one hundred percent that the ambassador program is an amazing program and should FORGE INTO THE FUTURE.

Also I truly feel that if had I not been chosen as the 2007 fair ambassador I would not be the person I am today. I once was a shy, quiet person. Now I am a person who can enter a room and not know a single person and can spark a conversation in seconds. It has given me confidence and has built up my self-esteem immensely. See you at the Fair!!

Sara McFadden
2007 Navan Fair Ambassador
